Board of Directors

The Board Members at SERUCA are committed to ongoing support for its members and the states we serve. Our goal is to help urgent care centers in the Southeast USA by combining our knowledge, skill sets, key sources of information, and contacts to keep the medical community and our members up to date.

J. Bernie Short, MD, FAAFP, FCUCM

FOUNDER & PRESIDENT

J. Bernie Short has been an advocate of Urgent Care since 1985 and has been exclusively practicing Urgent Care for over 20 years in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Short has recently served as the Chair of the Board of Certification in Urgent Care Medicine (associated with the American Board of Physician Specialties) and as Medical Director for Piedmont Urgent Care in Atlanta, where he is currently employed. Dr. Short currently volunteers for the Dekalb County Board of Health Medical Reserves Corp and is also on the Editorial Board of the Evidence-Based Urgent Care Journal.  He is also a representative to the Delegates Council & Clinical Consortium of the UCA.

Dr. Short has spoken about urgent care to the Georgia legislature, on Infectious Disease, on Steroid Stewardship, and on Primary Care – Urgent Care Synergy. His passion is in sharing knowledge and advancing Urgent Care as a specialty.

Tracey Davidoff, MD, FCUCM

VICE-PRESIDENT

Tracey Davidoff has practiced Urgent Care Medicine for more than 15 years. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and has worked as an Emergency Physician in several sites in Rochester, NY. While in Rochester, she held faculty positions at the University of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Technology Physician Assistant Program. 

Dr. Davidoff is currently on the faculty of the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine. She currently serves on the Urgent Care Association Board of Directors, is Editor-in-Chief for Urgent Caring Quarterly and Evidenced Based Urgent Care and is the Chair of the Fellowship Committee for the College of Urgent Care Medicine. She has lectured extensively locally and nationally on topics related to Emergency and Urgent Care Medicine. Dr. Davidoff is currently employed by Baycare Urgent Care in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. 

Patrick O’Malley, MD

Board Member

Patrick O’Malley is an emergency physician in Newberry, South Carolina. He serves on the Board of Directors for the College of Urgent Care Medicine and is passionate about education and other issues affecting urgent care as a specialty. Dr. O’Malley is the creator of “The Laceration Course” and “The Abscess Course” and has partnered with EB Medicine to bring educational content to urgent care clinicians.

Randy Glick

Board Member

Randy Glick, BSB/PM, MCP serves as the Executive Director of the Southern Medical Association (SMA). SMA is a 501c3 regional multidisciplinary, interprofessional association founded by physicians in 1906 for the purpose of continuing education and leadership development. SMA is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. His areas of expertise include nonprofit and for-profit administration and management, organizational leadership, development of continuing education/instructional design, information systems design and development, Google advertising and analytics, and project management. 

Mr. Glick also serves as President of SMA Services, Inc, a wholly owned for profit subsidiary of the SMA providing IRA/401k and life/disability insurances geared specifically towards the needs of physicians and healthcare professionals. 

Christopher Chao, MD, FCUCM

Board Member

Christopher Chao, MD is an urgent care physician with WakeMed Health and Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is the current president of the College or Urgent Care Medicine (CUCM) and is active in the Urgent Care Association. He is a contributor to Urgent Caring, A Peer-Reviewed Publication from the College of Urgent Care Medicine, as well as a faculty member for the Urgent Care Association. He also serves on several committees at the Urgent Care Association. In addition to practicing medicine, he mentors students, fellows and residents. He is committed to advancing Urgent Care as a specialty.

Brad Laymon, PA, CPC, CEMC

Board Member

Brad Laymon, PA, CPC, CEMC is an urgent care physician assistant with Novant Health/GoHealth in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He is also a Certified Professional Coder and a Certified Evaluation and Management Coder. He is an active member of the APP Leadership team for Novant Health/GoHealth. Brad is the founder of Coding Excellence, which is a medical coding consulting company, and has partnered with EB Medicine to bring medical coding content to urgent care clinicians. He is a contributor to the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine and the College of Urgent Care Medicine and does medical coding presentations for the Urgent Care Association and state PA conferences. 

Rich Walsh, MBA

Board Member

Rich Walsh is the COO of CareSpot Urgent Care and provides strategic and operational leadership to over 45+ urgent care centers. Rich also serves as a board member for Tenet Health Systems, Baptist Health, Orlando Health, and UF Health. Creating environments for employee engagement and empowerment has been Rich’s philosophy for over 25 years. With an entrepreneurial spirit, Rich has provided his industry knowledge and healthcare business acumen to various private investor or equity groups in pursuit of acquisition or start-ups. Mr. Walsh holds an MBA from Florida Atlantic University and a BA in Psychology from the University of Miami.
